What is LNG Carriers?

LNG carriers safely transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) at extremely low temperatures from production sites to consumption areas.

Key Features of LNG Carriers:

  • Insulated cargo tanks are present to maintain natural gas in its liquefied state at extremely low temperatures (-162°C or -260°F). Moreover, these tanks help to prevent the escape of gas.
  • Advanced safety systems are present to handle any hazards including Gas Detection Systems to detect leaks, Inert Gas Systems to prevent the buildup of flammable gases in the cargo tanks, and Emergency shutdown systems to quickly stop gas flow in an emergency.
  • As we saw in the case of oil tankers, LNG carriers also feature double-hull construction to prevent leaks and spills in case of collision or grounding.
